A couple weeks ago, I was riding my Ruckus and it just lost power and would not drive. It started fine, and would idle no problem, but as soon as I give it even the slightest throttle, it kills.
So, i got it home and a few days later took apart the carb and cleaned the jets and float. Put it back together and I could rev it hard on the kickstand but it had no power when i rode it and made a LOW bogging sound if you throttle it too much. Top speed about 15 mph.
Emptied the tank, replaced the fuel filter and put all new gas in. It seemed better, but after a run around the block the problem is back. It's not rideable like this.
What can it be?? blown gasket? bad spark plug. I checked the muffler and no holes or leaks. Any help would be appreciated. If it's something simple I'd rather not take it to the shop but I am pretty stumped.

This was happening to mine before I got a hold of it. It was the fuel pump, it would start fine most of the time and when you gave it any throttle it'd completely kill. We got a new pump and now it runs like a dream. Even right now in the cold months of January.

I am having the exact same issue and has now been in the Honda center for 3 MONTHS! I am not kidding, Honda doesn't even know the issue. If you come up with something PLEASE PLEASE let me know.
Things to Check
The battery relay If you put a varitor kit reinstall it

I just had those same problems with our 04 ruck. Took it to a local shop, it was a CLOGGED CARB. had some dirt/junk in there. Shop is Motorcycle Warehouse on 213/82nd Ave in Portland, had the valves inspected and a short fixed, as well as the battery charged. Runs great now and only $133 bucks.
I don't know these motors very well so for now, I pay.
Good luck with your ruck!

Did ya give Seafoam a shot ? About 2 shots worth in a full tank of gas while it is running, turn her off, than start her up again. Usually cleans the carb jets out pretty good. I use that stuff often !

I realize this is a little old now but, a leaky airbox will bog you down as well. Sometimes the front piece, the cover, will warp a bit and not give you a good seal. Since the plastic can strip out easily, bore the screw holes all the way through and use nuts on the back part of the breather box. You could even get a little fancy and make a recess on each hole so that the nuts mount flush.☺
My airbox didn't seal very good after about 3 years and that's what got me started down the road to start modding things here and there. I eventually rejetted and cut out a 4"x3" hole over the stock filter and made a rain cover for it. The new throaty sound is a plus and no more bogs!

Just going to throw it out there like I always do, check the coil. How do you recommend to check the coil? Do I use an ohm meter, is it just the 2 connectors on the back of the coil? I read somewhere that the spec is 130-180 ohms, does that sound right to you cuz I got 4?

Check the airbox as well. My ruckus Boggs out and when I start picking up speed and around 30-35 that's when my ruckus gets to her old self and starts running but as soon as I slow down or come to a stop, it's hard to get her back up and running. Mods weights, pulley, CDI, straight pipe.

MAKE SURE YOUR GAS CAP IS LETTING AIR IN. YOU MAY HAVE TOO MUCH GAS AND/OR THE PROPER AIR CIRCULATION IN THE TANK IS OFF.

Did anyone ever figure this one out? My ruck has been causing me all kinds of problems. it almost feels like the clutch is slipping. It bogs from takeoff all the way to 20-25 m.p.h. After that you can feel it catch and pulls normally until I get below 15 mph or come to a stop.. My initial thought was an air leak. I tried using carb spray and starter fluid around all seals for both the airbox and other air hoses and seals. I had a crack in my intake hose and a small crack on one of the air hoses. I replaced these thinking it was the problem and it did nothing. I also thought it might be an air pressure issue in the gas tank. I'm still thinking air leak. Just for fun I adjusted the A/F mix screw to give it a really rich mixture. It seemed to improve the engine performance which makes me think that it is an air leak. I know this is an older thread but I'm hoping someone here can give some insight.

Having the same issue with my 09 ruck...hit a bump (hard) and lost all power but will still idle...pulled the tank (which was rustier on the outside than an 09 should be (painting it now that it is out after treating with ospho) I can blow through the fuel filter just fine...can hear the fuel pump click when the key is turned on (no gas tank installed presently). I removed the variator per a previous post and confirmed that the rollers were ok...they seem to be...pulled the air cleaner housing off and unloaded some carb cleaner into the fuel mixer (carb/injection system)....still mysterious found a link that might prove helpful....possible fuel pump issue...work around: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vDnqREJkok

I ran the bike without the fuel pump by elevating the fuel tank to seat level (see video link above) ...same behavior, idles well then cuts sputters and dies when the throttle is open...have disassembled the carb and it is soaking in cleaner now...did no see any obvious blocking of the jets but will blow them out up on re assembly....would appreciate thoughts on this... if you think I am missing something...weird that it happened after hitting a hard bump...
