For all you new guys considering buying a Ruckus here are some frequently asked specs:
Fuel Type/Economy: The Ruckus tank holds 5 litres or 1.3 gallons with the gas light coming on after you've used up 1 gallon or 3.8 litres. You'll normally get 140-160 kms (85-100) miles before the light comes on and another 35-40 kms (22-25 miles) before you run dry. Honest Milage is 85-100 mpg.
A Ruckus requires 87 octane gas and using higher grade gas will NOT improve your performance. Higher octane gas is used in fast vehicles but it's not the reason they are fast. You only need higher octane gas if you are experiencing pre-igntion (aka 'pinging') which is not an issue with the Ruckus. In fact, high octane gas will make you slower because you've got less gas (potential power) and more octane, which simply makes your gas harder to burn.
Top Speed: For 2006 Honda tweaked the Ruckus and added about 3 mph. For 2003-2005 owners considering mods subtract about 3mph. Speeds are in ideal conditions with factors like wind and hills obviously slowing you down.
2003-2005 Ruckus:
New: 36-38 MPH
Used: 35-37MPH
2006-2007Ruckus:
Stock: 40mph/43mph (sitting/tucking)
Variator: 41mph/45mph
Variator, H.O. Camshaft, Intake: 42mph/47mph
41mm Piston + Variator: 43/47 (redline limited)
41mm Piston + Intake + Variator: 45/47 (redline limited)
41mm Piston + Int. + Var. + Met gears: 46/52
41mm Piston + Int. + Var. + Cam: 47/47 (redline limited)
41mm Piston + Int. + Var. + Cam + Exhaust: 47/47 (redline limited)
41mm Piston + Int. + Var. + Cam + Ex. + Met gears: 48/54
41mm Piston + 970 Int. + Var. + Cam + Ex. + Met gears + Posh CDI: 51/55
Acceleration 0-30mph: Add maybe 1 second for every 20lbs over 170 you weigh.
2003-2005: 12 seconds
2006: 9 seconds
2006 with variator, intake, cam: 7.5 seconds
2006 with overbore piston & all the goodies: 5.5 seconds
Yamaha Zuma/BWS (2-stroke): 6-7 seconds
Power
Horsepower = 4.9 @ 8000 rpm
Torque = 3.35 ft/lbs @ 7000 rpm
For 2006 these have increased slightly but no exact info is available.
Load Capacity:
The max load is spec'd at 220lbs here in North America although in Europe they say about 240lbs. To my knowledge, no one has ever had problems from carrying to big of a load although the stock rims and front axles are soft and would likely bend easier if you were off-roading. It's not uncommon for people to carry 2 people weighing 300+lbs w/o a problem other than being really slow and uncomfortable.
Weight:
Dry: 185lbs
Wet: 196lbs
A stock Ruckus does have quite a bit of potential for weight savings if you get into replacing parts like the steel rims and exhaust. 170lbs wet is likely reachable.
Tires:
Front: 120/90-10
Rear: 130/90-10

2006 - North America Ruckus is mildly revised with a new engine ventilation system, higher redline and a few other tweaks that improved overall power and oil life.
2007 - North American Ruckus gets enlarged Honda logo on seatback and revised Ruckus logo's on main frame. Japan Zoomer gets a Deluxe Edition with new paint options and white rims and seat coverings.
2008 - Fuel Injection Added to Japanese models. North American models get a new colour for the turnsignal indicator light.
2009 - Early release (July 2008) for 2009 models due to extremely high demand in North America.
Colours (N. America):
2003 - Red, Black
2004 - Yellow, Black, Desert (Brown) Camo
2005 - Black, Urban (Grey) Camo
2006 - White, Urban Camo.
2007 - Black, White/Urban Camo
2008 - Black, Silver
2009 - Red, Matte Grey Metallic
The camo colours are just a camo front battery box and frame decals. For 2007 the Camo battery boxes started recieving a clear coat. The actual frame is a funky matte/metallic black/charcoal. Other colours like blue, silver, copper and military olive green have been sold in Europe and/or Japan.
Carburator:
Manufacturer: Keihin
Size: 18mm (all years)
Stock Jetting: 75 main jet, 35 slow jet
Idle: 2000 RPM +/- 100 RPM
Notes: For 2006 Honda changed the needle so it now has a more gradual taper. Some owners have used this in their older Ruckus's with positive results.
Oil:
Engine Oil: 10w40 (only use 10w30 in cold conditions, in hot climates use 15w50)
Transmission Oil: Hypoid Gear Oil SAE 90
Change Intervals: 1st change = 600miles (1000kms), after that every 2500 miles (4000kms) is Honda's spec but do it atleast that often...especially on 2003-2005 Ruckus where gas blow by into the oil can be an issue.
Note: You can use car oils because we don't have a wet clutch. Despite what the service manual says, we can use 'energy conserving' oils. These oils should only not be used with wet clutch bikes.
Bolt Torques:
Rear Wheel: coming soon
Variator: 24 lbs*ft
Main Swingarm Pivot: coming soon
Clutch: 29lbs*ft
Shock: 28 lbs*ft
Valves:
Valve Gaps: Intake = 0.10mm (+/- 0.03mm), Exhaust = 0.19mm (+/- 0.03mm)
Maintenance Interval: 10,000 miles / 15,000 kms (realistically, you need to do it before then...maybe way before...but once you've done it once or twice successfully then you should only have to do it every once in a long while. For an easy how-to guide with pics check out:
